I was ugly from the beginning No one dared to draw near Disfigured and distorted It brought everyone such fear Everyone had abandoned me All those years ago but one, just one, whom I won't name The one I truly know If you wish to continue, dear reader Go on if you must But I must warn you, and please spare me From your looks of disgust Horns crawl up along my spine Made up of old scar tissue But underneath, the skin remains raw Which brings me to the next issue My skin has greyed all throughout From infection quite unlike any other Scaly imperfections coat my wrists Just a symptom. Yes, another The scales ooze whenever I move They crack and peel and taper Even as I'm writing, the ooze flows down And stains my pure white paper My eyes, my shadowed eyes Have lost all their appeal Brilliant hues now ghastly white Nightmares I'd witnessed that became too real Oh, the dreams, the dreams, they plague me so A reminder every starlight My heart quivers as I recall I'll replay it all
